CALCO 2005 will be held in the Department of Computer Science at the
University of Wales Swansea. Swansea is Wales' second largest
city, situated in the centre of the South Wales coast. It has a long maritime history; is currently a growth centre for high tech. industry; and
is next to the Gower Peninsula with its dramatic coastal scenery. You can find
some pictures of the Gower, including Mumbles, Caswell and Three Cliffs Bay, at Wilderness Wales, who
kindly gave us permission to use the main photograph used on the CALCO pages.
Maps, Local Travel and Orientation
The bulk of the City of Swansea, including the conference venue and accommodation lie between
the West bank of the River Tawe and Mumbles. The most important travel route is the road that runs
along the shore of Swansea Bay, connecting the City, the University and Mumbles. The buses that
use this route and the numbers: 2 and 2A and 3 and 3A (there is also a less frequent 2B service between the city centre and the University). Please Note that if catching a bus from the City bus station, the same numbers are also used for longer distance services to completely different destinations. It is quite hard to actually confuse the two, but if in doubt ask the driver.
There are also taxi services in Swansea, but with exception of sites like the bus and train station, in practice it is not easy to catch a taxi in the street. It is normally best to phone and book
