Quantum computation is a new field that bases computation on the laws of quantum
mechanics, which govern nature on small scales. This approach has led to
breakthroughs both on cryptography and in algorithm design. One of the most
exciting developments has been Shor’s 1994 efficient quantum algorithm to
factor numbers – a problem so far intractable classically and at the basis of
numerous cryptographic systems used today.
This tutorial will explain the basics of quantum computing, present some
algorithms and give perspectives and context.
