We post some useful links to supplementary material here in order to help second year students with their study of data communications and computer networks.
  1. Computer Networks, 4th Edition: Textbook-related resources and support materials for students and instructors maintained by the Anrew S. Tanenbaum (with over 400 helpful links).
  2. Student Resources Data and Computer Communications, 8th Edition: This is the web site set up to support William Stallings Data and Computer Communications book.
  3. Introduction to Data Communications: A free online book by Eugene Blanchard (over 500 pages of material)
  4. Webopedia.com: Not sure of a term or an acronym? Just type it in here! This is an online dictionary and search engine you need for all computer and Internet technology definitions.
  5. Blackboard.swan.ac.uk: Don't forget that the course slides and other supplementary material are posted on Blackboard.
Some interesting tools:
  1. DIG: dig is a command-line tool for querying DNS name servers for information about host addresses, mail exchanges, name servers, and related information.
  2. Winslam! WinSlam is a Win32 application that can be used as a Web server load test, HTML FORM test, and application server testing application. (Written by Bob's brother!)
  3. Sam Spade.org Sam Spade is an integrated network query tool for Windows 95, 98, NT and Windows 2000. A freeware tool for tracking down spam.
