More about the University and College Union (UCU)

I have been a member of Swansea University UCU since beginning work here. I have been a member of the committee almost from the start. I have served as Temporary Secretary, Vice-President and President, as well as being a Case Officer. I have also been a delegate to UCU Wales Congress several time, and UCU National Congress as well. I am a member of UCU Wales Council, and will in early June 2012 become Vice-President UCU Wales. This post will last for one year, followed by a year as UCU Wales President.

I have taken part in several demonstrations and marches, most notable the March for the Alternative in London on March 26th 2011>.

If you are a member of the UCU and feel you need help or advice from the union then please feel free to contact me, or any other Case Officer as soon as possible. A list of Case Officers can be found on our local website here

The union does not exist to cause problems, whetever the popular press might believe, but to ensure that the University management "follow the rules", and of course to assist management in constructing fair, equitable rules. The university are as happy as we are for eligible staff to be members. You can join online here or by contacting Swansea's Membership Secretary Chiara Ariotti
