The 'No Grownups' seminar series is organised and run by PhD students in the Swansea Computer Science Department. The following rules apply:
The aim of these seminars is to promote the free flow of ideas between research students in the department. The first rule exists since we have four distinct research groups, and any talk directly related to someone's research is likely to be too simplified for members of the speaker's own research group, or too complicated for members of the other groups.
The second rule exists to ensure that the audience for each talk is drawn from the speaker's peer group. This promotes a non-judgemental atmosphere - a pre-requisite for an interesting debate. Speakers who are confident of their knowledge of the subject and speaking abilities are free to invite members of the faculty.
The group meets at the end of every week. The program alternates between formal talks and informal discussion groups, debates, and more ad-hoc sessions. At the end of each session, the group adjourns to the pub.
